When am I applying to direct for?

Below are the dates we are looking to fill within our calendar at the Rio Grande Theatre.

Can you recommend some shows I should consider applying with?

Blank Conversations encourages you to apply to direct with any material that interests you. Our production history varies from family friendly shows, to edgy-musicals, to classics. In terms of shadow casts: Ensure you have a clear concept for a film you think would work as a shadow cast. In terms of Brews with the Bard: While the concept is based on Shakespeare works, we are open to other forms of classic theatre that fit the concept of drinking-while-performing.

What kind of shows can I submit?

Blank Conversations presents a variety of productions in the year. We are happy to take submissions for: Plays, Musicals, Shadow Casts, and Brews with the Bard. First Note: Shadow Casts will need additional clearance through our distributors to be considered for Shadow Casts. Second Note: Brews with the Bard productions will only be considered by directors above the age of 21.

I don’t know how much money to ask for. What should I say?

Budgets for Blank Conversations productions range wildly depending on the type of show. Our plays and musicals have reached anywhere from $1400-$2500, whereas our Brews with the Bard and shadow casts have reached $200-$500. Consider the material you’re applying with, discuss with folks you collaborate with, and make your best educated guess.

When should I expect to be contacted?

The Play Selection Committee will begin reviewing applications in the first week of March 2025. Directors should expect a contact notice by the end of the month at the latest.

What happens if I don’t have a full team to apply with for my show?

A fully-fleshed out team is not required prior to submitting your application to direct. It should be noted, however, the more you can fill out your team for your application, your application is likely to move farther into the consideration process. Note: Please correspond with individuals you list on your application. It is not the responsibility of Blank Conversations to seek interest on your behalf for your application, and we do not accept applications with personnel listed without their approval or consent.
