Blank Conversations Theatre Company & Rio Grande Theatre present
Brews with the Bard:
Hammered Hamlet
Blank Conversations Theatre Company presents another installment in our famous “Brews with the Bard” series: Hammered Hamlet.
Synopsis: To be, or, uh, not, to be? Blank Conversations’ next “Brews with the Bard” tackles arguably the most famous play in history: Hamlet. A Danish prince seeks revenge for his father's murder by his uncle, Claudius. Haunted by his father's ghost, Hamlet feigns madness to investigate. His indecision and internal conflicts delay his actions, leading to tragic consequences for himself and others. Meanwhile, the ghost's demands for revenge and Hamlet's own emotional turmoil drive the plot forward. All the while growing increasingly intoxicated.
Must be 21+ to participate.
Actors interested in participating sober are encouraged to audition.
FAQs about Brews with the Bard
-
Brews with the Bard is an ongoing series of productions presented by Blank Conversations in which a group of actors tackle works by William Shakespeare while growing increasingly intoxicated. Previous works include Twelfth Night, Romeo & Juliet, Taming of the Shrew.
-
Yes! Blank Conversations and Rio Grande Theatre follow a strict set of rules pertaining to consumption of alcohol during performances, including being subject to a breathalyzer test after every rehearsal/performance that includes alcohol.
-
Yes! We encourage anyone above the age of 21 to participate in Brews productions, whether you want to drink alcohol or not. Directors make a serious effort of including sober actors into performances as requested by actors.
Note: Even if no alcohol is being consumed, actors are still required to be above 21.
-
Unfortunately, Brews with the Bard is not quite the home for serious Shakespeare performance. Our philosophy with each production is this: Shakespeare was writing for the people of his time, and the people of his time drank more booze than water. Though this can be an opportunity to tackle material you may not be familiar with, our approach to Shakespeare in this capacity is a little more loose and introductory, rather than serious and grounded.
